Pakistan is a major rice exporter and annually exports about 2 MMT or about 10 percent of world trade. Exports consist of about 75 percent of IRRI rice and 25 percent of Pakistan’s famous fragrant Basmati. Pakistan produces best quality rice in world. Most of the rice yield is exported to other countries. Currently Pakistan is exporting rice to Middle East, Africa and Europe. Pakistani rice is known for its exotic taste in world over. The best Basmati Rice is cultivated in the fertile soil and emerald green paddy fields of Punjab - Pakistan. Punjab, the land of five rivers, with its elaborate canal irrigation system is the biggest rice-producing province. The government of Pakistan has approved certain districts of Punjab as Basmati zones to ensure uniform quality produce.
